BIO
Erik Swain is a cinematographer based in New York that grew up a competitive surfer on the Northern Beaches of Sydney, Australia. At fourteen he discovered a collection of black and white photos taken by his father that instantly inspired him to take photos himself. Combining his passion for surfing and with his new interest, Erik began shooting other surfers and less than two years later he had his first photo published in one of Australia's biggest surfing magazine.
In 1998 Erik moved to New York City to study and work with some of the best fashion photographers in the business, including Bruce Weber, David Bailey, David Sims and Steven Klein. After several years shooting fashion himself for magazines including Arena Homme +, Details and V, he discovered that his true love comes from the moving image and storytelling. Therefor a progression to cinematography has been a natural and fulfilling one.
